Stephanie K. Demers
Stephanie is Counsel at McCoy Leavitt Laskey LLC. She joined the firm after serving for ten years as a federal judicial law clerk to the Honorable John E. Conway, United States District Judge for the District of New Mexico. Stephanie’s practice focuses on the defense of products liability, catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death claims, often involving fire and explosions.
Stephanie received her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA and her J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As a judicial clerk, Stephanie was privileged to provide legal support to Judge Conway and other federal District and Magistrate Judges on pre-trial, trial, and post-trial matters spanning all aspects of civil and criminal litigation over which federal courts have jurisdiction. During law school, she was awarded second place for Best Advocate in the American Bar Association’s regional “Moot Court” competition and received third place for Best Brief in the same competition. Stephanie also served as a student research assistant to Professor Robert L. Schwartz in his publication of a leading health law casebook. Since law school, she has been an active member of the H. Vearle Payne American Inn of Court, has served on the planning committee for and presented at several CLEs in federal court, and has led the Combined Federal Campaign fundraising effort for the United States District Court, New Mexico.
Stephanie is a member of the New Mexico State Bar and the Federal Bar for the District of New Mexico.
